Zangersheide shows its colours

Lanaken - The gold medal at the EC in Vienna, 1977, meant a breakthrough for the Dutch team after 41 years of absence from the honourary platforms at international championships.

The fantastic Olympic results of the Dutch riders, male and female, in Sydney form a recent highlight in a success series that started 23 years ago with gold for the Dutch team as well as individual gold for ex-national coach Johan Heins, Studfarm Zangersheide's rider at the time. His former boss Léon Melchior: "I am a little proud of the fact that it have been our riders and our horses who played a prominent role in bridging the 41 year gap. The Dutch are still picking the fruit thereof today."

Unlike the Netherlands, Belgium, with the only and great exception of the excellent performance of Ludo Philippaerts and his wonder-horse RBG Ottorongo, had little impact in Sydney. Melchior: "Our black-yellow-red jumping team is still building up steam. Going to the Olympics with just one rider, that's a thing we have to do something about. That is why Zangersheide shows its colours. Our jumping stables are on Belgian territory, out international Studbook is established and recognized in Belgium and our young horses are ridden by Belgian riders. We want to accentuate our Belgian involvement."

The affinity with the Belgian top-league even dates from before the red-white-blue breakthrough in Rome. In 1976 'Fifi' Mathy won both individual and team bronze on the BWP-product Gai Luron (by Flügel van La Roche), a jumper that had been made available to him by Léon Melchior. All Zangersheide's sport horses have now been registered under the Belgian sport federation KBRSF. Léon Melchior: "They will be starting for Belgium next year and therefore under Belgian riders, except for Jos Lansink. Maybe Jos Lansink will follow in the trail of, for instance, Hugo Simon, Frank Sloothaak, Leslie McNaught and Peter Charles and change nationality. But that's up to him."

Nissan Sires of the World series very successful for Zangersheide

Bordeaux - The competition series for showjumping sires sponsored by Nissan 'Sires of the World' resulted in the finals at Bordeaux (13.02.1999) in great success for co-sponsor Studbook Zangersheide. In the finals Studfarm Zangersheide's own rider ruled supreme: after three rounds Jos Lansink finished in first place with Nissan Zandor Z (Rhld. by Zeus, dam's sire Polydor) and came second on Nissan Calvaro Z (Holst., by Caletto I, dam's sire Capitol I). Third was Swedish lady rider Emma Wester on the Zangersheide licensed Iowa (KWPN, by Libero H, dam's sire Nimmerdor). - Equestrian Websites
Nissan Calvaro ZBesides these results the finals also produced the outcome of the 'Sire of the World Euro Ranking' series, which in its first season of existence covered five competitions: Lanaken-Zangersheide (BEL), Caen (FRA), Mechlin (BEL), Hanover (GER) and Bordeaux (FRA). The total series produced a ranking expressed in Euro, led by Nissan Zandor Z, on which Jos Lansink collected 14,129 Euro. Second comes Alligator Fontaine (SF, by Noren, dam's sire Dark Tiger xx) who earned 7,368 Euro for Eric Navet, Nissan High Valley Zin this top-ten followed by: Nissan Calvaro Z/Jos Lansink with 6,794 Euro, Nissan High Valley Z (KWPN, by Ahorn, dam's sire Conte) under Jos Lansink with 6,234 Euro, Caucalis (SF, by Rox de la Touche, dam's sire Geronimo D) under Max Thirouin with 5,738 Euro, Iowa/Emma Wester with 5,716 Euro, RBG Landaris (Holst., by Landgraf I, dam's sire Caletto I) under Ludo Philippaerts with 4,364 Euro, Bim II (Ukr., by Bazmalej) under Lesley McNaught with 3,500 Euro, Power Light (Han., by Pilot, dam's sire Debutant) under Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst with 3,200 Euro and Barbarian (SF, by Quiniou, dam's sire Fantaisiste) under Philippe Rozier with 2,575 Euro. Prizes and premiums were paid out to riders and breeders in Euro. But as the EU currency does not yet exist in cash, Zangersheide chief Léon Melchior had gigantic cheques printed which pictured the already existing design.

Z-Festival, the ultimate parameter 22/07/2011 - 24/07/2011

From 22 up to and including 24 July we will organise the 13th Z-Festival. For breeders these foal championships are always an objective standard for showjumping horse breeding. That is guarantees by the jury, whose members have earned their metal in breeding and trade and have their fingers on the pulse of the horse world. Besides the nomination of champions and finalists, Z-Festival is also the moment at which the selection is published for the Zangersheide Quality Auction which is traditionally held during the World Championships for Young Horses in September. This regular pattern of the foal championships on the one hand and the selection criterion for the auction on the other is now a tradition the breeders have become well familiar with.

Selection criterion WC
Also well-known by now are the Z-Show Jumping competitions for young Z-horses that take place during Z-Festival. New this year is that at Z-Festival we also use the Show Jumping competitions as qualifiers for the World Championships for 5- and 6-yr-olds. A first qualifier is scheduled for Saturday 23 July, the second on Sunday 24 July. The number of starting places for the WC is limited, we organise a regularity criterion for the Z-horses over four qualifiers, in which the top five after four rounds are rewarded with a seclection for the WC. There are two qualifiers in July and two in August.

3-yr-old champions
Also this year the jury will choose a champion and 2 reserve champions from the 3-yr-old z-horses in free jumping. New this year is that the jury will make a selection for an auction for 3-yr-olds that will be held in August. The horses thus selected will naturally undergo a veterinary examination performed by the vets from Zangersheide.

Besides the 3-, 5- and 6-yr-old Z-horses also the 4-yr-olds will jump on Sunday 24 July 2011.
