CHAMPION DU LYS

Ludger Beerbaum won the Burg Stables Prix for 6/7/8-yr-olds at 1997 CSO Valkenswaard on Champion du Lys. Champion du Lys started his sport career in 1994 in Mexico by the name of Sinatra under young rider Joaquin Perez, who won two championships on him in the USA. As a 5-yr-old the Mexican international rider Gerardo Tazzer jumped the grey under his original name and won the Silver Cup and the Mexican Championship for young horses (plus a car). The following year Champion du Lys jumped 33 category 1.30m and 1.40m classes, of which he won 21. In Monterrey he was third in the Derby. As a 7-yr-old he jumped twelve classes in Mexico (seven wins) before moving to Europe. Tazzer won another 1.40m competition in Geesteren before the stallion was sold to the coach of the German dressage team, Madeleine Winter-Schulze, to be made available to Ludger Beerbaum. Champion's sire Laeken is state stud stallion of Saint Lô; he was born in 1977 out of a BWP mare (by Flügel, Han.) It is already remarkable that a stallion with his kind of pedigree - foreign warmblood - was licensed in France, but that he was also purchased by the French government is truly unique. Laeken has a jumping index (BSO) of +19 with a reliability of 91 percent. Champion's dam Karène du Lys has a breeding value of 116 (81 percent).
